End of First Quarter

Lake Geneva Schools Families,

We are extremely pleased that we have successfully completed the first quarter of the 2020-2021 school year and have been able to provide a quality learning experience for the students of our school districts, both our in-person learners as well as our virtual learners. I want to thank all of you for your support of our schools and our reopening plans as we continue to strive to provide quality educational programming in this challenging environment. Although this time is still very uncertain and we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, one thing I do know is everyone is working their hardest to continue to provide the best education possible and keep our school buildings open.

Your continued support of our schools and measures to support an environment that is as healthy as possible is appreciated and essential to provide us the best possibility to keep our schools open for the second quarter of the school year and beyond. Students and staff are asked to stay home if they are ill. Handwashing, physical distancing and the wearing of masks are also essential to our ability to remain open. As you may know, the holiday season and winter itself bring on their own challenges in the spreading of any virus. We hope that all families make wise decisions in the best interest of their own health and in consideration of the health of others as we progress through the holidays and the winter months that lie ahead.

Our teachers and staff are tirelessly working to provide a quality learning experience for our in-person students as well as our virtual learners. I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate their dedication to the students of our community. For our in-person students, our teachers and staff are going above and beyond to ensure that learning, activities and celebrations are happening in a healthy environment. Although we may have to cancel some events, we will continue to examine ways to provide our students with the activities and events possible with the modifications needed to assure a healthy environment. Our staff has been very creative in this endeavor.

Even with all the hard work from our staff, students and families, I do realize that our first quarter has not been without hiccups. We have had students and staff test positive for COVID-19. Please check our dashboard to get accurate information on our current COVID-19 status. With that being said, we have been able to minimize those excluded from our schools by effectively distancing and keeping our close contacts to less than fifteen minutes. When we have had issues, it has been because we haven't maintained that standard.

As we move forward it is essential that we all do our best to keep our schools healthy. Keep your student home when they are feeling ill or have been deemed a close contact of an individual that has tested positive for COVID-19. The quarantining of close contacts is a requirement we are expected to adhere to and will enforce. Please be respectful of our attempts to maintain our healthy learning environment if, in fact, your student may have to be quarantined. None of us like that to happen but it is a requirement and is intended for the good of all. And, in most cases, your child can become a virtual learner for that period of time and won’t lose out on instructional time. In school, we will continue working with students on properly wearing face coverings, physically distancing and minimizing close contacts (less than six feet) for fewer than fifteen minutes.

There will be more challenges as we continue forward with the 2020-2021 school year. I am confident that we will meet any and all of these challenges by taking the measures necessary to keep ourselves healthy and maintain an effective and as healthy as possible learning environment for our students. The issues surrounding COVID-19 have certainly not gone away and there may be new information, directives, recommendations, etc. that may cause us to change our plans. As of right now, we will stay the course! Thank you once again for your support during the first quarter of the 2020-2021 school year!
