Professional Development Opportunities

The Lake Geneva Schools offer many Professional Development opportunities. Supporting teachers in their continual efforts to improve instruction so that each student may achieve at higher levels in our schools is the mission of professional development. School board members, administrators, and teachers are encouraged to keep this mission clearly in mind when making decisions pertaining to district level and building-level professional development.

Final decisions regarding professional development will support the primary goal of improving instruction to improve learning. This mission has ongoing implications for improving effective classroom practices, authentic instruction, instructional leadership, technology and assessment.

Improving classroom practices requires time and opportunities to explore new ways of teaching, learning, and networking in and out of the classroom. Completion of professional development offered outside the regular contract may be compensated in the form of LGUs (Lake Geneva Units). LGUs are similar to graduate credits. Earning LGUs through the completion of professional development opportunities provides teachers with an avenue by which they may advance on the salary schedule as described in the compensation area of the teacher handbook.
