COVID Protocols

On Monday, December 27, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced updates related to their COVID protocols. As a result, Lake Geneva Schools has modified our Health Plan and COVID protocols. Effective Monday, January 3, 2022:

COVID POSITIVE CASE

Inform Stefanie Keisler, Director of Health Services ([email protected]) and your child’s school health office if COVID positive. Please include proof of positive (photo of the test with name and date or medical documentation). Isolate for 5 days, then if symptom-free or improved symptoms and fever-free 24 hours, return to school on day 6 wearing a mask on days 6 through 10. For specific details, please refer to the “When can my student return after illness?” document.

QUARANTINE AFTER CLOSE CONTACT WITH A POSITIVE CASE

If FULLY vaccinated or previously had COVID within the past (90 Days) and exposed to a positive case:

- DO NOT need to quarantine as long as the individual remains symptom-free

- The individual will be able to remain in school as long as they remain symptom-free

- The individual will be put on a watch list, if any symptoms develop, they will have to remain home and speak to their medical provider

If NOT fully vaccinated and exposed to a positive case in the school environment (low-risk):

- The individual will be able to remain in school as long as they remain symptom-free

- Testing will be available (based on the availability of testing supplies)

- The individual will be put on a watch list, if any symptoms develop, they will have to remain home and speak to their medical provider

If NOT fully vaccinated and an individual is exposed within their household (high-risk):

- They will need to quarantine for 5 days from the last day of close contact with the positive case in the home

- Per the CDC, please wear a mask for 5 days following the quarantine (days 6-10)

- We know transmission rates are higher amongst family members living under the same roof and extra precautions are needed

VACCINATION STATUS STILL MATTERS

Proof of vaccination eliminates the need to quarantine even in high-risk close contact cases (unless symptoms start, then get tested). The District encourages staff, students, and families to get vaccinated, but students and staff are not required to receive a vaccination in order to be in school. The choice to be vaccinated is a personal decision. Proof of vaccination will be required upon request of our health team.

PENDING COVID TEST

Anyone waiting for the results of a pending COVID test should stay home until the results are in. If a parent or household member has symptoms and a pending COVID test, all unvaccinated individuals should also stay home until COVID test results are in. Please ensure the test results are reported to the school office.

ONSITE COVID TESTING

Lake Geneva Schools continues to offer a free, voluntary COVID-19 Testing Program for students and staff of the Lake Geneva-Genoa City Union (Badger) High School District and the Lake Geneva Joint #1 School District. Click here for more information.

We continue to encourage everyone to take personal responsibility to keep our schools as healthy as possible. This means not coming to school when you are sick, reporting COVID positive cases, and making good decisions about activities beyond school. Remember, prior to engaging in any in-person school activity, families are expected to complete the “Daily COVID-19 Health Screening Checklist” with their children.

Please remember, these health modifications have to be viewed with an eye toward flexibility. Health conditions, as well as directives from local, state, and federal authorities, may make plans made today obsolete tomorrow. Please continue to monitor our website 2021-2022 COVID-19 Resource Center and our 2021-2022 Health Plan for the latest information.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Stefanie Keisler, RN
