DPI Accountability Report Cards | Joint # 1 Significantly Exceeds Expectations & Badger High School Meets Expectations

Lake Geneva Schools was recently notified that Lake Geneva Joint #1 School District Significantly Exceeds Expectations and Lake Geneva-Genoa City Union (Badger) High School District Meets Expectations on the 2017- 2018 Accountability Report Cards issued in November 2018 by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction or DPI.

Through its School and District Report Card program, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) rates the performance of all of the state’s publicly funded schools and districts. The accountability report cards are intended to help schools and districts use performance data to target improvement efforts that ensure students are ready for their next educational step including the next grade level, graduation, college and careers.

“I am extremely proud of our schools and the fine academic and co-curricular programs they have to offer,” stated Superintendent Jim Gottinger.

DPI releases report cards for both school districts and schools. In creating its District and School Report Cards, DPI looks at four priority areas including Student Achievement, Student Growth, Closing Gaps and On-track to Graduation and Postsecondary Success. All three Lake Geneva Elementary Schools (Central-Denison, Eastview, and Star Center) received overall accountability ratings of 83 or greater, meaning they Significantly Exceed Expectations, according to the DPI. Lake Geneva Middle School and Badger High School both had scores that placed them in the Meets Expectations, according to the DPI.  It is important to note that the 0 to 100 index score is not a measure of “percent correct” and should not be compared to a percentage grading scale.

The Lake Geneva Joint #1 District provides strong academic offerings for students in grades 4K-8 and small class sizes of eighteen (18) or fewer in grades K-3. “As part of the State of Wisconsin's SAGE (Student Achievement Guarantee in Education) program, we are committed to small class size to maximize achievement opportunities for our students,” Gottinger explained. “Our elementary students transition to our middle school which offers a wide variety of academic offerings including Pre-AP, STEM, unique elective choices in addition to a rigorous core curriculum and a wide array of co-curricular opportunities.”

When asked about Badger High School, Gottinger stated, “Badger offers a broad curriculum that challenges our most academically oriented students and provides many educational alternatives for students who desire to leave high school equipped to join the workforce.  In addition, Badger provides a wide range of athletic and co-curricular activities to meet the needs of all our students.”
